My first thoughts about making backpacking gear—not ultralight, since I didn’t even know what that meant back then—emerged in 2015 as I prepared for my hiking adventure to Santiago de Compostela.

That year, my parents gifted me a Deuter backpack for Christmas, which I absolutely loved! It weighed just under 2 kg, but what truly inspired me was its quality. From that moment, I wondered: Could I make gear myself? That backpack was made up of thousands of fabric pieces, all meticulously sewn together—it seemed almost impossible.

The following years became what I now call my “experience-gathering” phase. I traveled extensively, went on countless hikes, worked at an outdoor store for three years, and completed my master’s degree. And then, finally, I started sewing.

hubieul /hˈʌbɪ+uːl/ was born from two pivotal life events: a 10,000 km hitchhiking journey through the Americas and landing a new job at extremtextil. These experiences shaped the brand into what it is today.

Traveling through the Americas gave me endless time to reflect on the brand’s concept, its name, and its logo. Meanwhile, extremtextil equipped me with expert knowledge of ultralight outdoor fabrics. %%
