Caring for Your Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF) Ultralight Storage
Dyneema Composite Fabric is one of the strongest, lightest materials available—built to handle tough adventures while keeping weight to a minimum. With the right care, your DCF storage gear will deliver years of reliability. Here’s how to keep it performing at its best:
Cleaning
-
Hand-wash only. Use lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, non-detergent soap.
-
Avoid scrubbing aggressively. A soft sponge or cloth is enough—DCF doesn’t absorb water and cleans easily.
-
Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
-
Air dry completely before storing. Never use dryers OR heaters. %%
Storage
-
Store dry. Moisture trapped inside can lead to odor or mildew on other materials stored with it.
-
Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight. DCF resists UV degradation well, but extended exposure may shorten its lifespan.
-
Avoid sharp folds. Loosely rolling or lightly stuffing helps prevent long-term creasing.
Handling
-
Keep away from sharp edges. DCF is extremely strong, but cutting and puncturing forces can still damage the laminate.
-
Don’t overload. Follow any listed weight recommendations. DCF is tough but optimized for ultralight use, not heavy hauling.
Field Repairs
-
DCF repair patches offers quick, reliable fixes for punctures or tears. Clean the area and apply tape on both sides when possible.
-
For seam issues or major damage, professional repair is recommended to maintain waterproofing and durability.
Long-Term Care Tips
-
Avoid high heat. DCF can deform if exposed to hot surfaces, stoves, campfires, or car dashboards on hot days.
-
Keep chemicals away. Solvents, DEET, and strong detergents can weaken the laminate.
-
Rotate use if you have multiple bags to reduce repetitive stress on the same folds and seams.
