Our Story
How did hubieul come into life?
First thoughts to make backpacking gear (not ultralight, at this time I didn’t even know what it means) appeared in in 2015 when I have started gearing up for my hiking adventure to Santiago de Compostela.
This year my parents gifted me a Deuter backpack for Christmas., which I was fond of! It weighted just under 2 kg, but the inspiration to me was the quality. Since then I have been thinking if making gear by myself is possible at all – that backpack consisted of thousands of fabric pieces that needed to be sewn together.
The subsequent years were what I like to call my 'experience-gathering' phase. During this time, I traveled extensively, went on numerous hikes, worked at an outdoor store for three years, and completed my master’s degree… and finally I began sewing.
hubieul /hˈʌbɪ+uːl/ was born from two life events: a 10 000 km hitch-hiking trip through the Americas and securing a new job at extremtextil. These experiences shaped what the brand is like today.
Travelling in the Americas equipped me with tons of time to think of the brand’s concept, its name and logo.
extremtextil, on the other hand, enhanced me with top-level knowledge of ultralight outdoor fabrics.
